scuba

I have a passion for the ocean and I love to scuba dive. I have dived over 100 times in such varied locations as Hawaii, Turks & Caicos, The British Virgin Islands, Cabo San Lucas, and more.

cycling

I enjoy cycling, having completed three metric century rides with a fourth coming soon. I ride a Specialized Ruby. I train on the roads in the northern California bay area, and during the rainy season at spin classes.

sailing

I have been sailing for nearly twenty years. I have sailed through the Greek Islands, down the Croatian coast, in the British Virgin Islands many times, and once sailed from Gibraltar, Spain to Antigua, an Atlantic crossing that took over fifteen days. It is an amazing thing to be in the middle of the ocean with nothing in sight but water in all directions.

travel

I have traveled throughout Europe, to Japan, to South America, Southeast Asia, Mexico, Canada and nearly every state in the United States. My husband and I lived in Florence, Italy for about a year, and we once spent a summer in Tuscany and Provence. We have also traveled throughout Bhutan. We hiked in the Swiss Alps, skied the Dolomiti, hiked Mount Fuya Fuya in Ecuador, swam in caves in Maya Tulum. I've stood at the equator and across the prime meridian. I've been very lucky to have seen so much of the world.

radio

I have been a frequent guest contributor on KVSY FM in Sonoma, California as the Siren of Science. On the show, I discuss new develops in science, covering such diverse topics as electric car technology, whale fin design in biomimicry, the human brain, and the physiological benefits of a standup desk.
